Michael Hallinan, Major, USMCR
President, NY MEA

Previously, Michael served as a Captain in the US Marine Corps, where he deployed to Iraq, Korea, Kenya, Kuwait, Japan, Philippines, Australia and the Gulf Port region after Hurricane Katrina.  Michael was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon in 2005 for leading 50 Marines with "inexhaustible energy" during the final Battle of Fallujah, Iraq.  Michael is also a board member of The Way of Grace Development Corporation, which is working to develop social and physical infrastructure in the war-torn country of Liberia.  Prior to the Marine Corps, Michael cofounded UniversityTelevision.com, which distributed student media nationally for brands such as AT&T and Citibank.  Michael has also held various positions at Merrill Lynch, the US Senate and the US Department of Justice.  Michael holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs from Georgetown University.

Peter S. Kim, Former Corporal, USMCR

Vice President of Development, NY MEA

Peter is a graduate of Columbia University where he majored in Political Science.  While at Columbia he spearheaded the strategic growth of the student veterans organization, U.S. Military Veterans of Columbia University, helping stand up other sister organizations at Columbia Law School and the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University.  Peter orchestrated the Yellow Ribbon Program participation and roll out across all the schools at Columbia University.  Peter's military career in the Marine Corps Reserves spanned across the globe with deployments to overseas assignments most notably to Korea and Fallujah, Iraq.  He served 3 years on recall orders in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  Peer was officially retired from Marine Reserves in 2008.  He continues to serve the community by working with several non-profits including the Wounded Warrior Project and American Corporate Partners as well as serving on the board of Faithful Bridges Foundation.  Peter has held various positions at O'Melveny & Myers, Hess Corporation, and most recently - Morgan Stanley.  Peter is currently employed by PwC (PricewaterhouseCoopers) working in Advisory - Banking and Capital Markets. 

 

Robert Seo, former Marine Corporal
Vice President, NY MEA

Robert Seo grew up in Potomac, Maryland and attended the University of Maryland. In 2000, after his freshman year of college, he enlisted in the Marine Corps. After basic training in Parris Island, South Carolina, he served with Bravo Company, 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance (LAR) Battalion as a reservist. In February 2003, Bravo Company was activated, deployed to Kuwait, and subsequently attached to 3rd LAR for the invasion of Iraq. Upon the fall of Baghdad, Bravo served as the Quick Reaction Force for the southern provinces of Iraq where it patrolled and responded to ambushes until September 2003. Robert was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon for his service abroad. Robert completed his bachelor's degree in economics and a minor in mathematics from the University of Maryland in 2005 and worked in New York as an investment banker at UBS. In 2008, he moved to Medellin, Colombia to train for the Ironman Triathlon. In conjunction with completing the race, he raised over $12,000 for Jericho Project, a non-profit which provides housing, vocational training and counseling to homeless veterans, in honor of fellow a Marine who died while they were deployed.


Ryan Delany, former Marine Sergeant

Vice President, NY MEA

Ryan Delany graduated from Harvard College in January 2010 with a degree in government, and he is currently seeking to enter the coffee import business.  His professional experience has military, financial and international foundations.  Prior to entering college Ryan served in the Marine Corps infantry, where he participated in Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom before being honorably discharged as a sergeant.  He has interned with financial advisors at Morgan Stanley and founded and run a web start-up company.  In addition to travelling in the military, Ryan has studied in Spain and done non-profit work in Nicaragua.


Nick Mackres, Major, USMCR
Vice President, NY MEA

Nick Mackres enlisted in the US Marine Corps Reserves in 1996 as a Private, rising to the current rank of Major.  He graduated from Columbia University in 1999 as a mechanical engineer and was commissioned in 1999, earning his specialty as a Supply Officer. He was given the responsibility for supporting 2000 personnel with global supply chain management throughout four locations in three different countries, including three Iraqi combat deployments. In 2005 he left active duty in the Marine Corps and entered Columbia University Business School earning an MBA.  He joined J. F. Lehman & CO. in New York as a Summer Associate in 2006.  Nick was responsible for screening deals for operational significance in the aerospace, defense, and maritime sectors, in addition to performing due diligence, assembling critical checklists, creating and presenting financial models, research and reporting on industry outlook, and judging the business sense of a deal.  From 2006 to 2009 he served as a Public Affairs Officer in Manhattan. He is currently in the Marine Corps Reserve serving as the Regional Liaison Officer to FEMA. He has been with The Windessa Group since 2007.

Dan McSweeney, Major, USMCR
Vice President, NY MEA

Dan McSweeney serves as executive director of the SS United States Conservancy, an international effort to save America's national flagship and re-purpose this legendary passenger ship as a stationary attraction in a large U.S. metropolitan waterfront.  He also serves as principal at INTERSECT, a strategic communications and organizational development consultancy based in New York.  Dan served on Active Duty in the Corps 1999-2005.  He deployed widely and served as media officer for Plans, Policies, and Operations at Headquarters, Marine Corps.  A native New Yorker, Dan is a graduate of Valley Forge Military Academy, Eugene Lang College (The New School), the Coro Foundation Fellows Program in Public Affairs, and the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia.  He serves on a variety of alumni and professional development boards and committees.  He currently holds the rank of Major in the Marine Reserves.

Mike Scotti, former Marine Captain
Vice President, NY MEA

Mike enlisted in United States Marine Corps Reserves as a private before graduating from the University of Miami, Florida, where he received a BBA in finance. After graduation, Mike attended the Marine Corp's Officer Candidate School in Quantico, Virginia. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant and served 4-years on active duty as an artillery officer and platoon commander in the First Marine Division. He was among the first American troops into both Pakistan and Afghanistan in the Fall of 2001 and deployed to Iraq in early 2003.  Mike was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal with Combat "V" for actions under fire.  Mike then earned an MBA with a specialization in finance from the New York University Stern School of Business. While at NYU Stern, Mike founded the Military Veterans Club and helped build Reserve Aid, a charity that has raised over $3 million for the families of wounded veterans.  After spending time as an associate in the Leveraged Finance Group at Credit Suisse, he assisted with the turnaround of a $30 million distressed frozen foods distributor, acting as President and CFO for 18 months. Mike was honorably discharged as a captain from the Marine Corps Reserves in 2008.
